Custom Gobo Projector & Logo Sign Projector Manufacturer - Noparde Gobos
W hen planning large-scale outdoor branding, architectural lighting or cultural tourism night scene projects, one of the most common decisions is choosing between a 500W large-format projector and a 700W high-power projector. Both are built for long throw distances and big image sizes, but they perform very differently in terms of brightness, coverage, environmental adaptability and operating cost.
Many project teams assume “higher wattage is always better,” but that is not always true. A 500W unit may deliver perfectly clear results for mid-sized building facades and save significant power and budget, while a 700W unit becomes necessary for ultra-long distances, high ambient light environments and super-sized display surfaces.
This article uses two real outdoor projection cases to break down the practical differences, suitable projection distances, image sizes and ambient light conditions for each power level.
Case 1: 500W Large-Format Projector – Mid-Rise Commercial Building Facade Branding
Project Background
A 15-story commercial office building in a second-tier urban business district needed a nighttime brand display upgrade. The property management team wanted to project the corporate logo and themed visual content onto the main facade of the building after dark. The building facade was about 45 meters wide and 55 meters tall, and the projector would be mounted on a pole across the street, about 30 meters from the wall.
The site had moderate street lighting ambient light, not extremely bright, but not a fully dark park environment either. The project budget was controlled, and the team wanted energy-efficient equipment that could run 6 hours per night long-term.
After on-site brightness testing, the engineering team selected the Noparde 500W long-distance projector.
At a 30-meter throw distance, the 500W unit produced a clear, evenly lit image approximately 10.5 meters wide – perfect for centering a large brand logo and decorative border on the building’s central facade section. The brightness was strong enough to cut through street lamp ambient light and maintain sharp, readable text and logo edges.
The team also considered a 700W unit, but it would have produced over-brightness on this particular facade, wasted power, and created unnecessary light spill into upper floor windows. The 500W model hit the exact balance of visibility, power consumption and cost.
The 500W architectural projector delivered crisp, centered branding on the building facade every night. The logo remained clearly visible from sidewalk level and across the street, without washing out or appearing dim against the city’s night sky. Energy consumption was 40% lower than a 700W solution would have been, reducing long-term operating costs for the property.
A landmark luxury hotel located on a major city riverfront planned a full night scene upgrade. The hotel wanted to project large-scale themed visual content across its entire 80-meter-wide main building facade, to strengthen its brand image and become a recognizable night landmark along the river.
The projector would be installed on the opposite river bank, at a throw distance of approximately 65 meters. The site had strong ambient light from riverside street lamps, decorative landscape lights and passing boat traffic. The image needed to stay bright and detailed even with all these surrounding light sources active.
For this ultra-long throw and high ambient light scenario, the design team selected the Noparde 700W high-power large-format projector.
At 65 meters, a 500W unit would have produced a dim, washed-out image that disappeared against the bright riverside environment. The 700W model, with higher lumen output and precision long-throw optics, produced a large, bright image approximately 23 meters wide at that distance. The image covered the full visual focus area of the hotel facade, with even brightness from center to edge.
The 700W unit’s enhanced optical system also maintained sharper line detail at long range, so decorative patterns and hotel brand text remained readable even from the far side of the river.
The 700W landmark projector turned the hotel facade into a striking riverside night landmark. Even with strong surrounding ambient light, the projected visuals stayed bright, colorful and sharply defined. The hotel saw a noticeable increase in social media photo sharing and brand recognition in the city, directly justifying the step up to 700W power.

Choose 700W when:
Both 500W and 700W long-range projectors have their place in outdoor large-format projection. The 500W unit is the balanced, cost-effective workhorse for most standard urban building facades, while the 700W unit is the high-performance solution for ultra-long throws, high ambient light and landmark-scale displays.
Noparde’s 500W architectural projector and 700W high-power projector both feature precision long-throw optics, IP-rated weatherproof housings and reliable long-running performance. Our technical team can perform on-site brightness tests and projection simulations to help you select the exact wattage that matches your distance, surface size and ambient light conditions.
